Imation Features Product Solutions For The Imaging Industry

Hardware, software and media workflow solutions on display in PMA booth #F83

New Orleans, La. (February 20, 1997) Imation Corp. (NYSE: IMN), the new information and imaging company recently spun off by 3M, is featuring a broad range of customer solutions for the imaging industry at the Photo Marketing Association (PMA) show here.

Under the theme, "Passport to Imation," visitors to PMA booth #F83 are invited to tour Imation's expanding world of product solutions designed to meet customers' conventional and digital imaging needs. Within the photographic market, Imation offers workflow solutions for the storage and output of digital images from the Internet, digital cameras and scanners.

Imation products on display at PMA include Imation™ Photographic Paper for Inkjet Printers, as well as data storage and color proofing solutions for digital applications.

Imation's lineup of digital solutions for the imaging industry include these leading-edge products:

  • Photographic paper for inkjet printers This desktop solution for computer users allows them to print photo-quality images on common color inkjet printers. Leveraging Imation's proven expertise in imaging, color science and precision coating, Imation Photographic Paper for Inkjet Printers provides superior image quality and color reproduction, and significantly faster drying time than competitive products.

  • Travan™ minicartridge With up to 8 GB of storage space, 3.5-inch Travan minicartridges make it easy to store thousands of high-resolution images in a compact, easily accessed format. Tape-it™ software, when used with Travan-4 minicartridges, allows quick access with drag-and-drop simplicity to stored images and multimedia files. Travan minicartridges provide a quick, easy and economical way to dramatically expand computer storage space for graphic images. With features that reduce static and debris buildup which can cause irreplaceable data loss Travan minicartridges provide reliable image storage.

  • LS-120 diskette technology The new LS-120 technology represents a quantum leap in desktop storage. With a capacity of 120 MB, the 3M™ LS-120 diskette now manufactured by Imation fills a need in the imaging and information industry for greater storage capacity. Each LS-120 diskette provides more than 80 times the capacity of standard 1.44 MB diskettes. A key advantage of the LS-120 drive technology is its read- write backward compatibility with 1.44 MB and 720 KB DOS-formatted diskettes.

  • Optical storage solutions Imation offers turnkey services for pre-recorded optical products, including CD-ROM and DVD-ROM, a new high-density format for digital storage of images, audio, video and software applications. Turnkey services include formatting, mastering, replication and customization. Imation's optical storage solutions also include rewritable optical applications such as CD-Recordable, PD- Rewritable, DVD-Recordable and a variety of magneto-optical storage solutions.

  • Imation Rainbow™ color proofing systems Imation Rainbow™ color proofing systems offer digital photographers the edge. Based on the graphic arts industry standard 3M™ Matchprint® Rainbow™ proofs show how photos will look on the printed page. Compatible with Macintosh™ and PC platforms, the Rainbow™ Controller Software accepts multiple file formats including direct output of Adobe® Photoshop files. Users can proof up to twelve color separations, including Pantone® and custom colors. A comprehensive line of substrates also is available for output, including a peel- and-stick material to display and mock-up photo projects.

  • Luminous™ Media Manager™ Luminous Technology Corp., an independent subsidiary of Imation, recently announced the introduction of Luminous Media Manager. This open architecture, desktop media management software offers a solution for the increasing digital workflow in the photo industry. It provides fast, easy access to a variety of content, including graphics, audio, video and text, using industry-standard database engines. The client-server software runs on the Macintosh™ OS platform, the Microsoft® Windows NT® and Windows® 95 operating systems.

    Media Manager allows cataloging and retrieval of high-resolution images stored on a server or removable storage device, such as a Travan minicartridge or an LS-120 diskette. The software automatically generates both thumbnail and screen-resolution images for easy viewing and manipulation with desktop applications. In addition, Media Manager has built-in compatibility with the World Wide Web, as well as a user-level security feature that allows controlled access of the image library.
